Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Cups

One of our most popular recipes is our Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Cobbler! This fantastic recipe is perfect for holidays, family breakfast, or when you want to sit down and enjoy a sweet treat.

I started thinking about how can we adapt some of our recipes so they can be enjoyed on the go or maybe at your desk. I spend a lot of time at my desk and find myself reaching for easy to hold snacks and sweet treats.

Enter in these epic Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Cups! They are so good! I may have taste tested them multiple times to make sure they were as good as I thought they were. LOL!

The drizzle of cream cheese frosting over the apples is one of my favorite things. This bite size easy dessert recipe is perfect for any day of the week.

Can of apple pie filling and 2 cans of cinnamon rolls

Ingredients

This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make an epic Apple Pie Cinnamon Roll Cups! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Cinnamon Rolls - We use a regular can of 8 cinnamon rolls with premade icing. If you use Grands or a larger cinnamon roll you may need to trim the top of the cinnamon rolls. We used Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls but you can use any brand.

Apple Pie Filling - We use premade canned Apple Pie Filling for this recipe. You can also use homemade apple pie filling or even fried apples.

This recipe could easily be adapted to use cherry pie filling or blueberry or peach pie filling. Any of these flavors would be amazing.

If you make homemade cinnamon apples they could also be used instead of pie filling.

Optional - To make these even more decadent serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzle with caramel sauce, sprinkle additional cinnamon on the pie cups.

Equipment Needed

Nonstick Cooking Spray - This will help make it easier to remove the cinnamon roll cups from the muffin pan.

Rolling Pin - If you don't have an easily accessible rolling pin you can also use a glass to help flatten the cinnamon rolls.

Regular Muffin tins - We use a 12 muffin pan for these apple pie cinnamon roll cups. A nonstick muffin pan makes it easy to remove these cinnamon roll apple pie cups.

Spoon - To drizzle the epic frosting over the top.

Cooling Rack - You can set these out on a wire rack to cool for a few minutes before serving if you want to make sure they have a chance to cool down.

How to make Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Cups

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead - We do not suggest making these ahead of time. The cinnamon rolls with get a bit crunchy if they sit to long.

Storage - Store any leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Freezer/How to Freeze - Pillsbury cinnamon rolls can be frozen BUT the taste and texture may be impacted.

How to reheat - Reheat in the microwave

Recipe Variations

Additions - You can make additional icing or cinnamon roll glaze if you want to make sure there is more than enough. We used the packages that come with the cinnamon rolls and had more than enough. The apples add another level of sweetness to the cinnamon rolls.

Add toasted pecans to the top

Vegetarian - This recipe is vegetarian.

Vegan - Use vegan cinnamon rolls and confirm the apples have nothing additional added to them.

Gluten-Free - Use Gluten Free cinnamon rolls and confirm no gluten binders have been added to the apple pie filling.
