The Snakebite Shot is not for the faint of heart! It packs a punch with a sweet taste.

You want to be prepared for this two-ingredient cocktail shot. While it is quick and easy to prepare, it can affect how you feel in the morning.

Please be careful with this cocktail shot, and be ready for it to be strong!

Another snake-themed cocktail shot is the Water Moccasin Shot.

Yukon Jack is a 100-proof, 50% ABV Canadian whiskey and honey-based liqueur produced by Sazerac Company. It is sometimes called the "Black Sheep of Canadian Liquors."

This Snakebite Shot uses the original recipe, but you will also find variations of Yukon Jack in Barrel Proof, Rye, Fire, Apple, Honey, and Snakebite flavors.

    Equipment Needed

    • OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.
    • 2 ounce shot glasses
    • Cocktail Shaker

How to make a Snakebite Shot

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Strain into a shot glass and enjoy the Snakebite Shooter.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead โ€“ We do not suggest making these ahead of time. They taste better served cold.

Storage โ€“ We do not suggest storing this cocktail shot. It is meant to be enjoyed right when you make it.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead: We do not suggest making this whiskey shot beforehand. It tastes better served cold.

Storage: We do not suggest storing this cocktail shot. It is best to enjoy it right when you make it.

    Recipe Variations

Vegetarian Option: This recipe is vegetarian.

Vegan Option: The Snakebite Shot is not vegan. Yukon Jack Whiskey contains honey.

Gluten-Free: The Snakebite Shot is also gluten-free. Yukon Jack is on Celiac.comโ€™s list of gluten-free liqueurs, and Roseโ€™s Lime Juice is a gluten-free mixer.

Alcohol-Free Option: We have yet to find a non-alcoholic substitute for Yukon Jack, but you can try this NA zero-proof whiskey. The taste will be a bit different.

Smaller Serving Size: The written recipe makes one two-ounce cocktail shot. You can split it into two one-ounce mini shots.

Make It Spicy: We have yet to try this preparation, but we have seen other Snakebite Drinks that add drops of hot sauce or Tabasco to make the drink spicy.

Larger Group/More Servings: Double or triple the recipe for additional shots if youโ€™re serving a group. Depending on the size of your group, you may need to make shots in rounds.

Sugar-Free: The Snakebite Shot contains less than 1 gram of sugar per serving, making it safe for sugar-free drinkers.

Tips for the Best Snakebite Shot

    • We have heard that some bartenders will not serve the Snakebite Cocktail because it is so strong. If you run into this, just smile and order something different.
    • The United Kingdomโ€™s Snakebite Cocktail combines hard cider and a lager beer poured as a layered drink. This version does not contain Yukon Jack but may have blackcurrant cordial liqueur poured on top.

What to Serve with a Snakebite Shot

It takes only one Snakebite Shot to experience why it got its name! This intense whiskey shot would be a welcome addition to a cocktail night or bachelor party, though you may want to let anyone who wants it know that it packs a serious punch. Here are some menu planning suggestions.

Appetizers: Caprese Salad, Super Easy Marinated Olives, Super Easy Bruschetta, CrockPot Brown Sugar Kielbasa Bites, Alabama Fire Crackers, Pigs in a Blanket, Air Fryer Chickpeas

Drinks: Blue Balls Shot, Jager Bomb Shot, Orange Tic Tac Shot, Cement Mixer Shot, Fireball Jello Shots, Baby Guinness Shot, Vodka Gummy Bears, Pickleback Shot, Mind Eraser Shot
