The Snakebite Shot is not for the faint of heart! It packs a punch with a sweet taste.

This is a cocktail shot that you want to be prepared for. While it is quick and easy to prepare it can have lasting effects on how you feel the next morning.

Please be careful with this cocktail shot and make sure you are prepared for it to be strong!

Another snake-themed cocktail shot is the Water Moccasin Shot.

    Ingredients

This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make an epic Snake Bite Shot! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

    • Yukon Jack Whiskey
    • Rose's Lime Juice

Yukon Jack is a Canadian Whiskey and Honey Based Liqueur that is produced by Sazerac Company. It is 100 proof with an ABV of 50%. It is sometimes called the "Black Sheep of Canadian Liquors"

This Snake bite Shot uses the original recipe but you will also find variations of Yukon Jack in Barrel Proof, Rye, Fire, Apple, Honey, and Snakebite flavors.

    Equipment Needed

OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.

How to make a Snakebite Shot

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Step 1 - Pour Yukon Jack and Rose's Lime Juice into a cocktail shaker. Shake well until chilled.

Step 2- Strain into a shot glass and enjoy the snakebite shooter.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead – We do not suggest making these ahead of time. They taste better served cold.

Storage – We do not suggest storing this cocktail shot. It is meant to be enjoyed right when you make it.

    Recipe Variations

Substitutions - In the United Kingdom a snakebite cocktail is made with hard cider and a lager beer poured into a layered drink.

Vegetarian Option - This recipe is vegetarian.

Vegan Option – Yukon Jack is made with honey so it is not vegan friendly.

Gluten Free -This recipe is gluten-free

Alcohol Free Option – We have not found a non-alcoholic Yukon Jack but there is NA Zero Proof whiskey that could be used. The taste will be a bit different.

Smaller Serving Size – This recipe creates a 2 ounce cocktail shot. It can be split to make two 1 ounce shots.

Larger Group/More servings - This recipe can be doubled or more.

    Recipe Tips

We have heard that some bartenders will not serve the snake bite cocktail because it is so strong. If you run into this just smile and order something different.

There is a British version of the Snake Bite that creates a layered cocktail with hard cider and lager similar to a Black and Tan served in a pint glass. The British Snakebite does not have Yukon Jack in it but may have blackcurrant cordial liqueur poured on top of the drink.

We have seen snakebite drink recipes that add hot sauce or drops of tabasco sauce to this cocktail but we have not tried it.
