Bourbon Eggnog Recipe

Can you tell I am on a mission to make all things eggnog this holiday season? LOL!

We are having so much fun trying eggnog with different liquors to see which flavors we prefer and what tastes amazing. The Costco eggnog containers are huge so we have been working our way through them and seeing all the different ways we can use eggnog.

I am pretty sure by the time Christmas comes my husband is going to need a break from all of these eggnog recipes. I haven't figured out what the next flavor we work with is going to be.

November turned into cranberry recipes so I now have to decide what January and February are going to be turned into. Any suggestions?

Right now we are super excited to share this homemade bourbon eggnog! It tastes amazing and can be made for holiday parties or brunch ahead of time.

I know that we normally see spiced rum or brandy and bourbon mixed together for the holidays but I love the flavor of bourbon mixed with eggnog.

Ingredients

  • Eggnog
  • Bourbon
  • Nutmeg

Eggnog - You can use homemade eggnog or a carton of grocery store bought eggnog for this recipe.

What is the best bourbon for eggnog?

My initial answer to the question of what is the best bourbon for eggnog is the one that you have already.

If you are looking to buy a new bourbon I would recommend trying a classic or stretching to a new brand you haven't tried before.

There are a ton of lists of the "best bourbon for eggnog" but they are all individual peoples opinions. I highly suggest trying a few brands until you find the one that you prefer.

Bourbons are a type of American whiskey made primarily from corn.

Popular brands include Jim Beam, Basil Hayden's, Bulleit Bourbon, Knob Creek, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, Evan Williams, and Maker's Mark.

One thing to keep in mind is eggnog is rich in flavor. It is definitely the dominate flavor in this cocktail. There is no need to buy an expensive bourbon unless you really want the excuse to pick up a new bottle. If you need the reason to go buy a killer bottle of bourbon...go for it!

Equipment Needed

Old Fashion Glass/Rocks Glass

Bar Spoon or a whisk if you are making a large amount.

How to make Bourbon Eggnog

Step 1 - Pour eggnog into class. Hopefully you pour into the glass and not all over the place the way I did. LOL!

Step 2 - Add in bourbon and stir with a bar spoon.

Step 3 - Garnish with ground nutmeg.

You can also add in a bit of ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick for additional garnish.

How to make a Big Batch of Bourbon Eggnog

This recipe can easily be adapted to become a holiday party eggnog punch!

This eggnog bourbon punch can be served in a punch bowl or by the pitcher. Mix it ahead of time and store it in the fridge until ready to serve.

Recipe Tips

You can add more or less bourbon based on how strong you want this winter cocktail and the taste you enjoy.

This is my go-to drink for the holidays! When I want to splurge I use Southern Comfort, but usually it's just regular bourbon. Either way it's absolutely delicious. CHEERS!
