I LOVE how easy these white chocolate-covered Rice Krispie Treats are to make! You can use homemade rice krispie treats or buy a box of premade treats at your grocery store.

I like to use store-bought treats because they are all the same size and look consistent on a tray. You can easily use homemade treats if you are great at getting even cuts.

My husband LOVES Rice Krispie treats, so I try to make these treats when my husband is out of the house. He walks by me in the kitchen and picks up one or two treats as he heads to the office.

Thankfully, these are quick and easy to make, and I can whip up a few more.

Did you see the chocolate-covered sugar wafers we shared and the chocolate-covered pretzels? I will share a secret with you: I made them at the same time.

Melting the chocolate once and making 2-3 treats at one time is a great way to make a variety of holiday desserts for a party or dessert charcuterie board.

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients for making epic Chocolate-Covered Rice Krispie Treats! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Rice Krispie Treats
    • Almond Bark
    • Sprinklesย

Rice Krispie Treats - You can use store-bought Rice Krispy treats or homemade Rice Krispie Treats. If you are making homemade Rice Krispie Treats you will need butter and mini marshmallows along with Rice Krispies.

Sprinkles - These are the perfect holiday treats to bring out your favorite fun holiday sprinkles.

Optional toppings - candy canes, crushed nuts, mini M&Ms, toffee bits, edible glitter, rainbow jimmies, chocolate drizzle

    Equipment Needed

    • Large Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter. Make sure to use a microwave-safe bowl.
    • Wooden Spoon
    • Parchment Paper/wax paper
    • Baking Sheets - We are huge fans of these baking sheets with sides.

How to make Chocolate Dipped Rice Krispie Treats

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Melted vanilla almond bark in a clear glass bowl with a wooden spoon for chocolate covered rice krispie treats.

Set up your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

Melt chocolate bark in 30-second intervals in the microwave. Make sure the bowl does not have any water or moisture in it before adding the chocolate bark.

    Stir after each interval.

Dip Rice Krispie treats into the chocolate. You can thoroughly coat the treats or leave a section uncovered, depending on the final design you have in mind.

Immediately sprinkle with sprinkles and place on a parchment paper lined prepared baking dish. If you wait to add the sprinkles, the candy coating will turn hard, and the sprinkles will not stick.

We hope you enjoy this Christmas Rice Krispie Treat Recipe!

    Preparation and Storage

    Make Ahead:

You can use store-bought Rice Krispie Treats as a make-ahead shortcut. You must add the sprinkles and other toppings as soon as you dip them into the melted chocolate so they stick to each treat.

    Storage:

Store leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature and enjoy them within three to five days. Place a sheet of parchment paper between each layer to keep them separate.

We do not recommend refrigerating them since they harden at cooler temperatures.

    Freezing/How to Freeze:

The Chocolate-Covered Treats should last up to 3 months and thaw well at room temperature.

Make sure to wrap the Chocolate-Covered Cereal Treats in plastic or wax paper before placing them in a freezer bag.

    Recipe Variations

    Substitutions:

You can use store-bought Rice Krispy treats or homemade Rice Krispie Treats. If you are making homemade Rice Krispie Treats, you will need butter, mini marshmallows, and Rice Krispies.

These are the perfect holiday treats to bring out your favorite fun holiday sprinkles. If you're making them for a holiday other than Christmas, you can match the sprinkles to the occasion. Red, white, and blue sprinkles would be terrific for the Fourth of July!

These can easily be made with homemade Rice Krispies Cereal treats.

You can use white chocolate almond bark, candy melts, dark chocolate bark, or milk chocolate bark

    Vegetarian Option:

Kelloggโ€™s Rice Krispie Treats contain gelatin, so vegetarians should replace them with a vegetarian-friendly alternative.

    Vegan Option:

In addition to the guidance for vegetarians, vegans should make their Chocolate-Covered Rice Krispie Treats with plant-based melting chocolate and sprinkles.

    Gluten-Free:

Kelloggโ€™s Rice Krispie Treats are unsafe for a gluten-free diet, so gluten-free eaters should replace them with a gluten-free alternative.

If you are highly sensitive and want to avoid cross-contamination, looking for a gluten-free label on your melting chocolate and sprinkles is also helpful.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings:

The written recipe makes 12 Chocolate-Covered Rice Krispie Treats and adjusts quickly to another serving size using the slider in the recipe card below.

    Sugar-Free:

The written recipe contains 41 grams of sugar per serving. Each ingredient contains sugar, so replace each with a sugar-free or low-sugar alternative to make sugar-free Chocolate-Covered Rice Krispie Treats.

Tips for the Best Chocolate-Covered Rice Krispie Treats

    • Placing a bowl under the sprinkles is a great way to spread them out and have them last longer. When you have a great mix of sprinkles, you can use them to cover additional treats.
    • For a fun twist, coat white chocolate with mini chocolate chips.
    • You can add paper straws or popsicle sticks to make these into Rice Krispie Pops.ย
