We are really missing being able to drop into Cracker Barrel for a delicious comfort food meal. Our closest Cracker Barrel is located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We are not leaving the house right now let alone driving across state lines.
There are talks that we make get a Spokane restaurant at some point but we haven't seen one yet! I am crossing my fingers and toes that we get a Cracker Barrel close to home.
Until that happens I am working on making Cracker Barrel recipes at home. These Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Country Green Beans with bacon are so easy to make and honestly they are dang delicious.
The bacon and onions add so much flavor to the green beans. This is the perfect side dish for family dinners or holiday meals!
Ingredients Needed
- Slices of Thick Cut Bacon
- Green beans
- Onion
- Sugar
- Salt
- Pepper
Equipment Needed
large Dutch oven with lid or a 2-quart saucepan
Heat resistant potholders - A couple of years ago we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.
Recipe Tips
Make sure you cut up your bacon into chunks before you start cooking it.
I used my large Dutch oven to make this cracker barrel green beans with bacon recipe. It worked perfectly.
Medium heat cook bacon until lightly brown is perfect! This allows you to cook the bacon without it getting to crispy.
Make sure the bacon has browned before you add in the green beans. You want to get the great flavor from the bacon mixed in with the green beans.
I leave the bacon grease in the pan when I add in the green beans, salt, sugar, and pepper. I want to get all of the flavors I can.
Add the onions on top of the green beans and wait for the liquid to come to a slow boil.
This recipe takes about an hour total with cooking time from start to finish. The prep time is pretty quick. All you really need to do is measure the salt, pepper, and sugar and chop the bacon a bit.

Cracker Barrel Green Beans Recipe
Ingredients
- 5 slices Bacon cut into pieces
- 42 oz Green beans 3 cans
- ¼ cup Onion
- 1 Teaspoon White Sugar
- ½ Teaspoon Salt
- ½ Teaspoon Black Pepper
Instructions
- Cut bacon into pieces, add to dutch oven and brown
- Once bacon is browned but not crisp add in green beans with juice, salt, pepper, sugar and onion.
- Bring to a light boil, then turn down to simmer
- Simmer for 45 minutes
