Blue Mule

This Blue Mule is a great twist on the Classic Moscow Mule. We still serve it in a copper mug to keep the look of the original but change up the ingredients to make a fun blue cocktail.

I love being able to make unique spins on the Moscow Mule. Any excuse to pull out our copper mugs and make a delicious cocktail recipe.

Since we have been home so much and not traveling I decided to start playing with our favorite classic cocktails and our favorite cocktails from traveling. A couple of years ago we had the chance to visit a Curacao liqueur factory on the island of Curacao.

It was fascinating learning how the liqueur is made and sampling quite a few different colors and varieties. Did you know they make a green curacao. It is definitely not as as common as Blue Curacao.

I brought back a bottle of blue curacao from our tour and I have to tell you I have never been so nervous to open my suitcase when we got home. I put the bottle in a wine bag and wrapped it up in soft clothing but I was still super worried I was going to open my bag and find all of my clothes dyed blue.

Thankfully that did not happen though it did leak. Thank goodness for a perfectly sealed wine carrier bag.

Ingredients

  • Blue Curacao
  • Vodka
  • Fresh Lime Juice
  • Ginger Beer

Optional - For a sweeter cocktail add in a bit of simple syrup

Ginger Beer - There is no alcohol in ginger beer. You can use any brand that you prefer.

Blue Curacao - Curaçao is a Caribbean liqueur made using the dried peel of the Laraha citrus fruit. It is pronounced  Blue ‘Cure-ah-souw’.

Equipment

Copper Mule Mugs  - Copper Mule Mugs are the classic way to serve Moscow Mules. The copper mugs keep them nice and cold and look amazing.

Bar Spoon

Jigger - We use these OXO jiggers and love how easy they are to pour from.

Ice Cube maker - This ice cube maker produces the most amazing cubes of ice perfect for cocktails. It easily fits in the freezer and you can make up to 3 trays of round ball ice at a time.

How to make a Blue Mule

Step 1 - Add ice to a copper mug to chill the glass.

Step 2- Add vodka and blue curacao to the copper mug along with fresh lime juice. Top with ginger beer.

Recipe Tips

This blue cocktail would be fantastic for 4th of July! Add some strawberries or raspberries to a cocktail pick to get both red and blue in your drink.

If you don't have Copper Moscow Mule mugs you can serve this drink in an old fashioned glass. The copper mugs help keep the drink cold and look amazing.
