This Blue's Blue Margarita Recipe is one of our favorite tropical cocktails on a Carnival Cruise! Itโ€™s the perfect blend of citrus flavors in a gorgeous blue margarita! Take a sip and transport yourself to the deck of your favorite Carnival Cruise Ship!

There is nothing like lounging on the Lido deck with a blue margarita. You can enjoy the killer tunes broadcast or watch a movie on the big screen.

My main goal is to soak up as much sun as possible without turning myself into a burnt tomato for the rest of the cruise. There is nothing like frying yourself early in the cruise and then figuring out how you will keep having a great time while coated with a gallon of aloe. I did this on our Panama Canal cruise and regretted it for days.

Now we do everything we can to enjoy every minute of the cruise without burning ourselves to a crisp. Thankfully, there are many cool things to do and see on a Carnival Ship. Even after a week-long cruise, Iโ€™m left with a bucket list to accomplish on my next cruise.

Our last cruise was from New York to Bermuda on the beautiful new Carnival Horizon. It was a dream, and I am so excited to share more about this cruise and the gorgeous new Carnival Horizon with you soon.

This blue margarita has a gorgeous blue color thanks to the blue curacao liqueur. It is a fun twist on a traditional margarita!

How to Make a Blue Margarita

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

    1. Pour all the ingredients into a blender.
    2. Add one giant scoop of ice cubes.
    3. Blend until smooth.
    4. Pour the blended cocktail into a 12-ounce margarita or hurricane glass.
    5. Garnish with a lime wedge.

You can also shake and strain the ingredients in a cocktail shaker if you prefer the drink on the rocks.

Add a salt rim to the rim of the glass if desired.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead + Storage: Did you know you can make margaritas up to three days beforehand? Refrigerate them in an airtight container to keep the mixture fresh.

Freezing/How to Freeze: Like our make-ahead-friendly Strawberry Margaritas, the alcohol in margaritas keeps them slushie-like without freezing them solid.

Enjoy your frozen Blue Margaritas within two weeks, and always freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container. You can even stock them in single-serve containers; who doesnโ€™t love pulling out a fresh margarita whenever they want?

    Recipe Variations + Tips

    Substitutions:ย

You can use a frozen lemonade mix or make your own. We have a CopyCat Chick-fil-A Lemonade to get you started!

You can replace the frozen lemonade mix with our CrockPot Lemonade Moonshine for an extra boozy Blue Margarita.

Our Blue Agave Margarita adds triple sec if you want an orange liqueur flavored blue margarita.

Vegetarian + Vegan Option: Each ingredient in this recipe, including blue curaรงao, is typically vegetarian and vegan-friendly. Check with the manufacturer to be sure.

Gluten-Free: Similarly, the ingredients in this cocktail are naturally gluten-free, but check with the manufacturer if you are highly sensitive since some processed ingredients may contain gluten-unsafe additives.

Alcohol-Free Option: Remove the alcohol and consider using butterfly pea flower tea. This naturally blue herbal tea is a powder or extract that adds blue to beverages without alcohol.

Make it Spicy: Rim your margarita glasses with Tajรญn, a spicy chili-based fruit seasoning, for some color contrast and spice.

Larger Group/More Servings: The Blue Margarita is easy to prepare pitcher-style! Scale the written recipe to your desired yield and the container size you want to fill.

Sugar-Free: This cocktail recipe contains 87 grams of sugar per serving. While frozen lemonade mix and simple syrup have simple sugar-free alternatives, blue curaรงao does not. As mentioned above, you can use butterfly pea flower tea to make your cocktail blue without sugar.
