Do you crave hot chocolate the moment it starts to snow in your area? We have been getting snow on and off in Spokane which means it is time for all the hot chocolate!
Depending on the day we will whip up our favorite hot cocoa recipe or whip up some boxed mix in a few minutes. It all depends on how much time we want to spend.
Adding a shot of RumChata to hot chocolate makes it the perfect winter adult hot chocolate. The spiced rum cream flavor is amazing and tastes amazing when mixed with the hot cocoa.
I was looking at cabins in the woods today trying to decide if we should take a long weekend and just relax for a few days. I love the idea of getting away with some great books, fun movies, and no plans.
I might even enjoy watching the snow fall and not having to stress about making sure the driveway and walkway are cleaned off quickly.
This is one of our favorite RumChata Christmas Drinks! So easy to make and it tastes amazing!
Ingredients
- RumChata
- Hot Chocolate Mix
- Milk
Garnish - Marshmallows, whip cream, gingerbread cookies, cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce, toffee bits, milk chocolate chips, and vanilla syrup.
We found these cute gingerbread mug cookies at Trader Joes.
Hot Chocolate - We used milk chocolate hot cocoa mix but you could easily use a flavored hot chocolate.
Recipe Variations - Add in vanilla extract
What is RumChata?
RumChata Horchata Con Ron is a blend of Caribbean Rum, Cream, and flavors of cinnamon and vanilla.
The dairy cream is sourced from Wisconsin. The spices are sourced around the world.
Does RumChata need to be refrigerated?
RumChata does not have to be refrigerated. RumChata can be stored at room temperature.
Equipment Needed
Small Saucepan or microwave-safe large measuring cup/bowl.
How to make RumChata Hot Chocolate
There are a few ways you can make RumChata and Hot Chocolate. We went with the quick and easy way for this recipe using a dry cocoa mix and milk.
You can also make Crockpot Hot Chocolate or make RumChata White Hot Chocolate with our Crockpot White Hot Chocolate and mix the RumChata into the hot cocoa as you serve it.
The other option is to make stovetop homemade hot chocolate with cocoa powder, sugar, water, and milk. It really is up to you and how much time you want to spend making the hot chocolate.

Recipe Tips
PLEASE use milk to prepare your hot chocolate! I know the box mixes say they can be made with water but for this RumChata Hot Cocoa recipe, you really want to use milk. It will mix together better and taste better.
If you are serving a large group you can easily make a large quantity of hot cocoa and have guests add in the RumChata.
You can adapt the amount of RumChata in your cocktail based on how strong you want the drink to be.

Instructions
- Heat milk in a saucepan or in the microwave until hot. Stir in hot chocolate mix until combined.
- Add RumChata and stir together.
