I never thought you could make Red Velvet Cookies, Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies, and now Red Velvet Brownies from a cake mix. These recipes have to be some of the easiest recipes to make.

I love simple, easy recipes that turn out amazing! These brownies are chewy and yummy! Thankfully, they only make an 8x8 pan of brownies because these did not last very long in the house.

Paired with a cold glass of milk, these are a wonderful treat. You could also cut these brownies out in heart shapes if you wanted to use them for Valentine's Day.

One thing I love about Cake Mix recipes is you don't have to measure out flour, vanilla extract, salt, cocoa powder, all purpose flour, and all the other ingredients needed for brownies.

No need to separate wet ingredients and dry ingredients. With this red velvet brownie recipe everything goes together in own bowl AND everything is a pantry basic ingredient.

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make epic Red Velvet Brownie recipe! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Red Velvet Cake Mix
    • Unsalted Butter
    • Brown Sugar
    • Eggsย

Optional Garnish - Cream cheese frosting, heart sprinkles, powdered sugar

We found the brownies to have a great red color. if you want them even more red you can add in a few drops of red food coloring.

    Equipment Needed

    • KitchenAid Mixer or Hand Mixer and Large Mixing Bowl

    • Parchment Paper

    ย

How to Make Red Velvet Brownies From Cake Mix

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

    1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl or a stand mixer. I used our KitchenAid Mixer to help combine this batter. It is super thick.
    2. Pour batter into a 9x9 baking dish.
    3. Bake at 375ยฐF.

We hope these Red Velvet Cake Mix Brownie's become your new favorite treat. They taste great and have such a nice flavor.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead: You can prepare brownie batter the day before and store it in the refrigerator until baking the next day, but doing so may yield fudgier and denser brownies, so keep this in mind if you have a preference for texture when it comes to your brownies.

Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or the fridge, and enjoy them within four days.

Freezing/How to Freeze: Freeze leftover brownies in an airtight, freezer-safe container and enjoy them within three months. For individual, grab-and-go servings, cut them into squares and wrap them in a snug layer of plastic or aluminum foil before freezing.

How to Reheat: If you prefer warm, fresh-from-the-oven brownies, reheat them in ten-second intervals in the microwave until warm. Let any frozen brownies thaw overnight in the fridge.

    ย

    Recipe Variations

Substitutions: We used Betty Crocker Super Moist Red Velvet Cake Mix, but you can use any brand you like.

Vegetarian Option: Use a boxed cake mix labeled vegetarian to make this recipe vegetarian.

Vegan Option: Make this recipe vegan using a vegan boxed cake mix, and replace the butter and eggs with plant-based alternatives.

Gluten-Free: Opt for a gluten-free red velvet cake mix to make this recipe safe for a gluten-free diet.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: We use one red velvet cake mix box to make 16 servings.ย

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 14 grams of sugar per serving. Use a sugar-free red velvet cake mix and a sugar-free alternative to brown sugar to make it sugar-free.

    ย

Tips for the Best Red Velvet Cake Mix Brownies

    • Donโ€™t skip melting your butter before mixing it into the batter! Cold butter does not incorporate well.
    • Add white chocolate chips or swirl softened cream cheese to the batter before baking for some extra pizzazz.
