You all know we love CrockPot recipes! One of our top recipes is this CrockPot Ham recipe we shared a few years ago.

I decided to add a fun new spin on this yearโ€™s holiday ham with the help of an orange glaze.

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic CrockPot Orange Glazed Ham! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • 3-6 Pounds of Ham (depending on your Crockpot's capacity)
    • Red Onion
    • Chicken Broth/Stock
    • Orange Marmalade
    • Dijon Mustard
    • Cornstarchย

    Equipment Needed

    • CrockPot: We suggest using a CrockPot with a digital timer that automatically switches the temperature to warm after a set time.
    • Large Mixing Bowl: We are big fans of this glass batter bowl with a handle, as it makes it easy to mix ingredients and keep the mixing bowl steady on the counter.
    • Whiskย

How to Make CrockPot Orange Glazed Ham

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

    1. Place ham in the CrockPot and add diced red onions.
    2. Combine chicken stock, orange marmalade, Dijon mustard, and cornstarch, then whisk together. Pour over ham in CrockPot.
    3. Cook on lowย
    4. Serve with the orange glaze over the top of the ham.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead: One of the reasons we love cooked spiral-cut ham is that itโ€™s already cooked, so it only needs heating and flavoring to become an epic holiday main dish!

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Freezing/How to Freeze + How to Reheat:

You can freeze a full-size ham or ham slices, depending on what you have. I pick up a ham or two after the holidays for great post-holiday prices when they go on sale. I will freeze a whole ham for a few months and then cook it up.

You can also slice the ham, wrap it in freezer paper, and store it in freezer bags. Make sure to write on the bag the date you froze it so itโ€™s easy to pull it out a month or two after the holidays when we are craving ham again.

Check out our roundup of Leftover Ham Recipes for detailed guidance on storage and reheating!

    ย

    Recipe Variations

    Substitutions:

Ham: Depending on your preference, you can use a bone-in ham or boneless ham. We use a fully cooked spiral-cut ham since it only needs to be reheated and flavored, saving cooking time. The best part of fully cooked ham is that it doesnโ€™t need a lot of prep or temperature monitoring; just heat it and add flavor.

Chicken Broth: Feel free to use vegetable broth if you donโ€™t have chicken broth in your pantry.

Vegetarian + Vegan Options: Though we have yet to try it, health food supermarkets like Whole Foods Market often have vegan and vegetarian ham roasts that could make this recipe possible for plant-based eaters. Make It Dairy Free also has a Vegan Ham Roasts Video Review if you want to research.

Gluten-Free: Whether this recipe is gluten-free depends on the ingredients you use. Choose ingredients labeled as gluten-free if you want to avoid gluten.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: The written recipe uses a 6-pound ham to yield 12 servings. Spiral-sliced ham comes in half and whole sizes, so select your size based on how many servings youโ€™d like to accommodate.

Make It Spicy: We have yet to try these spins on CrockPot Ham, but spices like chipotle and red chili pepper flakes would be yummy with the orange marmalade glaze if youโ€™re craving a kick of heat.

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 8 grams of sugar per serving. Use a sugar-free orange marmalade to make it sugar-free. Some flavored hams contain added sugars, so double-check the labels at the grocery store before buying.

Tips for the Best CrockPot Orange Glazed Ham

    • Plan to let the ham rest for at least 10 minutes before serving it.
    • If you want the crispy edges of oven-baked ham, put your glazed ham under the broiler for a minute or two to give it some caramelization. Sugar burns quickly, so keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn.

I do love my crock pot. It's a huge time saver. I don't think I have ever made a ham in it though.

The glaze is my favorite part of my holiday ham. This orange glaze sounds so incredible. I'm sure a citrus infused menu would be lovely on Easter.
