These biscuits are so easy to make and taste amazing! I served them at a dinner party, and the plate was empty before I served the main dish.

I can't believe we first shared this recipe back in October 2012! It is one of my favorite easy bread recipes. Only a few ingredients, and you can serve warm cheddar garlic muffins in minutes.

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients for making epic Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Bisquick Baking Mix
    • Skim Milk
    • Cheddar Cheese
    • Melted Butter
    • Garlic Powderย

    Equipment Needed

Large Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.

Microwave Silicone cover - I swear by these lid covers to help prevent butter splatters when melting butter in the microwave. I have had way too many butter explosions while baking. These lid covers help keep the butter in the bowl and not on the roof of your microwave.

      Baking Sheet -  I like to use baking sheets with sides so there is no way I can be clumsy and have the cookies slide right off into the oven {not that I want to admit that it has happened but I did learn my lesson.}

Parchment Paper - I am a huge fan of using parchment paper to make clean up and serving so much easier.

Heat resistant potholdersย - A couple of years ago we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.

How to Make Copy Cat Cheddar Bay Biscuits

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

      1. Preheat oven
      2. Mix Bisquick Baking Mix, milk, and cheese until a soft dough forms.
      3. Drop the dough by the spoonful onto an ungreased baking sheet.
      4. Bakeย
      5. Mix butter and garlic powder.
      6. Brush the butter/garlic mixture over the warm biscuits before removing them from the cookie sheet.

      Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead: Bisquick recommends preparing any dough or batter using their baking mix for no more than an hour. To make your biscuit dough beforehand, chill it in the fridge in an airtight container.

Storage: Keep leftover Cheddar Bay Biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature and enjoy them within three days.

Freezing/How to Freeze: Let your biscuits cool, then wrap each in foil or plastic and freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container or bag for up to three months.

How to Reheat: The Tasting Table has a fantastic guide to reheating biscuits!

      Recipe Variations

      Substitutions:

Here are some recipe adaptations for putting a yummy spin on your Cheddar Bay Biscuits!

Bacon: You can add in cooked bacon to make these a bit more indulgent.

Additional Cheese: If you want these cheesy, add more cheese; just check that the batter still holds. You can also use sharp cheddar cheese for more flavor.

Garlic: You can add or subtract the garlic powder depending on the flavor you are going for. Some people are not a fan of garlic, so you can leave it out and have cheddar biscuits.

Herbs: These would be great with Italian seasoning. I have yet to try it, but the flavor would be excellent. I have seen people add dried parsley flakes and love the taste.

Vegetarian Option: This recipe is naturally vegetarian.

Vegan Option: Vegans should replace skim milk, cheddar cheese, and butter with non-dairy substitutes to make it plant-based.

Gluten-Free: You can use the Gluten-Free Bisquick to make this recipe gluten-free and keep the portions the same.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: We used 2 cups of Bisquick Baking Mix to make 14 servings of biscuits. Scale the written recipe to your desired yield, and plan for more time if you scale it up and need to work in batches.

Make It Spicy: Red Lobster does not make these biscuits spicy. You can spice them up with Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, as we did in our Spicy Southwest Biscuits.

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 3 grams of sugar per serving. Bisquick has no sugar-free variety, but their Heart Smart Pancake and Baking Mix is low-fat and naturally cholesterol-free.

Tips for the Best Copy Cat Cheddar Bay Biscuits

      • Donโ€™t skip melting the butter before combining it with the garlic powder! Cold butter will not mix easily. I would melt the butter and mix it with the garlic powder as soon as you place the biscuits in the oven so they are ready to brush onto your freshly baked biscuits.
