We have been having so much fun working on apple cider recipes. I can't wait to share the apple cider margarita we made and the upcoming apple cider cake I am working to perfect.

Have you seen our Apple Cider Mule and Apple Cider Muddy Buddies? I even made hard apple cider bread.

I love making fall drinks, especially when they are easy cocktail recipes. Fall season is honestly my favorite time of year.

The leaves changing, sweaters, apples and pumpkin everythingโ€”yes, please!

If you are having a harvest party, these would be the perfect fall cocktail party shots! This cocktail shot tastes just like apple pie!

I would even serve this as a Thanksgiving shot for a fun dessert cocktail. It is the perfect fall drink!ย

Fireball cinnamon whiskey, vanilla vodka, ground cinnamon, apple cider, and whipped cream can on a counter

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make this epic Apple Pie Shooter Recipe! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Cold Apple Cider
    • Vanilla Vodka
    • Fireball Cinnamon Whisky

Garnishes: Whipped Cream, Cinnamon, apple slice, apple pie spice, brown sugarย

Vanilla Vodka - If you don't have vanilla vodka you can use plain vodka or apple flavored vodka.

Apple Cider - You can substitute apple juice if you don't have apple cider. The apple pie shot will not have the full flavor that comes from the apple cider.

We use cold apple cider since this is a shot and you don't want to burn your mouth shooting hot apple cider.

Fireball Whiskey - If you don't have Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey you can also use cinnamon schnapps for this recipe. This could also be made with Crown Apple.

    Equipment Needed

    • 2-Ounce Shot Glasses: We love these 2 oz shot glasses, especially for layered shots.
    • Cocktail Shaker: This cocktail shaker comes with a fantastic set of tools
    • Shot Glass: We use tall, 2-ounce shot glasses for this cocktail, but these mason jar shot glasses would be super fun for this apple pie drink.
    • OXO Angled Jiggers: These angled jiggers are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.ย

How to make an Apple Pie Shot

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

ice and liquid in a cocktail shaker next to cinnamon sticks and apples

Step 1 - Add apple cider, vanilla vodka, and fireball whiskey into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Step 2 - Shake until chilled, and pour into a 2 oz shot glass.

Step 3 - Garnish with whipped cream and sprinkle of cinnamon over the top.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead + Storage: You can make a large batch a day or two before your party; just portion each shot into a shot glass and garnish before serving. Always store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.

Freezing/How to Freeze: The vodka and whisky in this Apple Pie Shot make easy Apple Pie Slushies, as the mixture will never fully freeze in your freezer.

Store portions in an airtight, freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag. When serving, thaw them to the point where you can scoop out the slushies with a spoon and divide them across your choice of glassware.

    Recipe Variations

    Substitutions:

You can use plain or apple vodka if you don't have vanilla vodka. Cinnamon vodka would add a new level of flavor.ย

You can substitute apple juice if you don't have apple cider, but know that the apple pie shot will not have the full flavor of the apple cider.

If you don't have Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey, you can use cinnamon schnapps or Crown Apple for this recipe.

If you are not a fan of whipped cream, you can skip it and rim the shot glass with caramel or ground cinnamon sugar.

Weโ€™ve seen a few Apple Pie Shot recipes made with Everclear, but we have yet to try them.

Vegetarian Option: This fall cocktail and shot recipe is vegetarian.

Vegan Option: Vegans should use plant-based whipped cream, apple cider, and an alternative to Fireball Whisky. Some apple cider varieties may contain honey as a sweetener, and Fireball is not vegan-friendly.

Gluten-Free: Fireball and apple cider are considered gluten-free. Gluten-free drinkers, especially highly sensitive ones, should use gluten-free ingredients where possible when preparing this shot.

Alcohol-Free Option: Use NA substitutes for the vanilla vodka and Fireball to make this recipe alcohol-free.

Smaller Serving Size: Divide the recipe across two 1-ounce shot glasses for a smaller cocktail shot.

Larger Group/More Servings: To make a larger cocktail, double the recipe ingredients or add more apple cider if you don't want additional alcohol.

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 3 grams of sugar per serving. Use sugar-free apple cider and whipped cream to make it sugar-free.
