I love this fun fall twist on the Classic Mule. This delicious apple cider Moscow mule recipe is one of my favorite ways to celebrate fall.

The combination of ginger flavor with the apple cider is just plain delicious! The fall season is my favorite time of year.

The changing leaves, holiday planning, warm sweaters, and cute boots make me happy.

There is very little prep time needed to make this pour-and-serve fall cocktail, which makes it great for fall harvest parties or even Thanksgiving.

Did you see the Apple Cider Margarita and the Hot Fireball Apple Cider we shared recently?

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Apple Cider Mule Drink! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Vodka
    • Apple Cider
    • Fresh Lime Juice
    • Ginger Beerย

Garnish: Lime Wedge, Apple Slice, Ground Cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, or a Cinnamon Stick

Vodka - You can use your favorite vodka in this recipe. The flavor of the vodka is not strong compared to the cider and ginger beer so you don't need to use an expensive brand.

    Equipment Needed

    • Copper Mugs - Cooper Mugs are the perfect glassware for a mule! The copper mugs get cold when you add in the crushed ice. They keep your drink cold and it just looks great when served in a copper mug.
    • OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.

How to make an Apple Cider Moscow Mule

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Clear liquid pouring into a copper mule mug on a coaster with apples, lime pieces, and ginger beer in the background.

Step 1 - Add vodka, apple cider, and lime juice to a copper mug. Stir together.

Step 2 - Add ice to the Moscow mule mug and top with ginger beer.

lime wheel being placed in a copper mule mug on two coasters, additional mug, apples and limes in the background

Step 3 - You can keep the garnish simple with a lime wheel/wedge and a slice of apple or add in a bit of cinnamon or a cinnamon stick.

It really depends on the flavors you enjoy.

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead + Larger Group/More Servings: You can make pitcher-style Apple Cider Mules ahead of time sans the ginger beer! We recommend adding ginger beer when serving your guests so you donโ€™t miss out on the fizziness, as a flat Moscow mule doesnโ€™t sound fun.

Storage: Mix the cocktail ingredients, minus the ginger beer, and refrigerate them for up to a few days before serving. Stir the mixture before pouring it into copper mugs to reincorporate the ingredients.

Freezing/How to Freeze: Apple Cider Mule Slushies are easier to make than you think! Combine the cocktail ingredients in an airtight, freezer-safe container and freeze them overnight. When itโ€™s time to serve, leave the container at room temperature until you can scoop out the slushies and transfer them to copper mugs.

    Recipe Variations

    Substitutions:ย

You can use your favorite vodka in this recipe. The flavor of the vodka is not strong compared to the cider and ginger beer, so you don't need to use an expensive brand.

For a boozier mule cocktail, you can swap out the non-alcoholic apple cider for hard apple cider.

Add an even more autumnal twist by changing the vodka for bourbon, apple vodka, or caramel vodka. You could even try a bit of Fireball cinnamon whisky in this cocktail.

If you can't find apple cider you can use apple juice for the apple flavor but it won't have the flavor of fall spices.

Vegetarian + Vegan Option: The ingredients in the Apple Cider Mule are typically vegetarian and vegan-friendly, making this a vegetarian and vegan-friendly cocktail recipe!

Gluten-Free: The ingredients in this cocktail are typically gluten-free, including ginger beer!

Alcohol-Free Option: Remove the vodka or use a zero-proof alternative to make Apple Cider Mule Mocktails.

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 14 grams of sugar per serving. Use sugar-free apple cider and ginger beer to make it sugar-free.

Tips for the Best Apple Cider Mule

    • You can combine the vodka, apple cider, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker to ensure the flavors are well combined. Just make sure to pour it into a copper mug with fresh ice. We usually just stir them together in the cup.

    • If you can find apple cider from a local orchard that would be amazing.
