Air Fryer Baked Potato
We recently had the opportunity to tour a Washington Potato Farm and I have to admit that I will never look at a baked potato the same way again.
You can check out our Instagram page to see photos from the event. It was my first time visiting a potato farm and I learned so much about Washington Potatoes.
We came home from the event craving baked potatoes so I whipped out the air fryer and made loaded baked potatoes for dinner that night. There is just something so delicious about an epic baked potato.
I love that my husband and I can customize them with our favorite toppings. I am all in for garlic powder, butter, and cheddar cheese on my air-fried baked potato.
My husband wants all the sour cream, bacon, and cheese on his.
What are your favorite toppings on a baked potato?
You can also air fry sweet potatoes but they cook a little differently.
These air fryer russet potatoes make a great side dish or you can enjoy them for a main entree. There are many nights we have loaded baked potatoes with a few other side dishes for dinner.
Ingredients
- Russet Potatoes
- Olive Oil Spray
Toppings - Butter, Sour Cream, Garlic Powder, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Taco Meat, Green Onions, chives, everything bagel seasoning, shredded chicken, and/or salt and pepper
Equipment Needed
Air Fryer - We suggest getting an air fryer that is bigger than you think you will need. We found once we started using the air fryer, we ended up using it for more meals and larger meals.
Tongs - Make sure to grab kitchen tongs to remove the potatoes from the air fryer! They will be HOT HOT HOT!
How to make an Air Fryer Baked Potato
Step 1 - Clean your potatoes and pat dry.
Piece the potato with a fork several times or all over the potato.
Lightly spray with olive oil cooking spray. Sprinkle with salt if desired.
Step 2 - Place potatoes in the air fryer basket evenly spread out.
Air fry for 30 minutes and check to see if the potatoes are done. I use a fork to see how far it can easily pierce the potato. If it is not fork tender air fry for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Flip the potatoes when you put them back in the air fryer to make sure they evenly cook.
Step 3 - Slice open and add your favorite toppings
Recipe Tips
Use similar sized potatoes so they are done at the same time.
We make this recipe with russet potatoes. You can cook other varieties of potatoes in the air fryer but you will need to adjust the cooking time.
Skip wrapping the potato in foil so you get perfect crispy skinned potatoes!
We do not preheat the air fryer before cooking the potatoes. You can preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees if you want to cut down a few minutes of cooking time.
You can easily make these into a great vegetarian air fryer meal.
